How to Use the Catalog
Data Portal Help Document
Are you new to the data portal? The catalog is the key tool to find information you are interested in. It allows for searching, filtering, and sorting of available data assets, which is important as the number of assets available to continues to grow. This help document discusses how to use the catalog to find the information you are interested in.
Data Identification and Prioritization Revisited
DOM Guidance Document
Does your agency publish data in Microsoft Excel files, pdf reports, or text files? Do you present data in simple html tables on a website or perhaps even as filterable lists on your website? Do you compile information to include in annual reports? If you answer yes to any of these questions, it is time to consider publishing datasets on the state data portal.

data.iowa.gov

Annotations and Logarithmic Scale on Timeline Charts
support.socrata.com | 06/15/2020
You can now add annotations to timeline charts to help viewers understand the data. Just specify the date and add a description. You can also now display exponential growth with a logarithmic scale on timeline charts. A logarithmic scale is particularly useful when data skews to larger values or when you want to understand the percentage of change within your data.
"Primer" for Filtered Views
support.socrata.com | 06/15/2020
Filtered Views now have “Primer”page as the default landing page, similar to the Dataset “Primer” page. As datasets grow larger, more and more curated filtered views are being created to support data exploration. A landing page for filtered views allow users to easily discover metadata and other useful information such as the data table preview, column level metadata, promoted content etc.
