Kraig Paulsen, Director

Kraig Paulsen was appointed director of the Iowa Department of Management on October 1, 2021 by Governor Kim Reynolds.

Director Paulsen had previously served as the director of the Iowa Department of Revenue. He has served in that capacity since February 25, 2019. He served as director of Revenue and Management concurrently from October 2021 through March 2023.  Prior to his tenure with Revenue, he was director of both supply chain and business analytics initiatives at Iowa State University’s Ivy College of Business. He was also a past commissioner at the Iowa Department of Transportation and had served in the Iowa legislature as Speaker of the House.

Paulsen received his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, his Master of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a law degree from the University of Iowa.

The director is the officer who has immediate charge of the department. The position is appointed by the governor, and is subject to confirmation by the senate.
