The Department of Management (DOM) is excited to announce that Iowa Open Data is transitioning to a new platform provider, Google. This migration is part of our ongoing commitment to provide state agencies and the public with modern, high-performance tools for data analysis and transparency.
Key benefits of this transition include:
- Enhanced processing and analysis of large datasets for state agencies
- Improved data sharing capabilities, both internally and with the public
- Granular access controls and permissions to strengthen data security
- Highly customizable reports and dashboards tailored to specific needs
- A scalable foundation for future machine learning and AI initiatives
- A simplified, intuitive interface for easier data discovery
The new Iowa Data Hub officially goes live on June 4 at data.iowa.gov.
What you should know:
- Existing URLs to specific content, datasets, and reports will change
- Extremely outdated or irrelevant data has been removed as part of a comprehensive “house cleaning” effort
- Public users can no longer log in to create their own personalized views and visualizations.
- Some terms are different:
- Views provide a custom perspective of a dataset, typically utilizing pre-applied filters, sorting, or aggregation to emphasize specific insights. Views can also offer sophisticated data representations by combining information from multiple sources.
- Looks are single tables, maps or charts
- Dashboards combine various visualizations (charts, maps, graphs) to provide a big-picture view of a specific topic
More information about the new Iowa Data Hub can be found in the Public User Guide, which is designed to be your roadmap for the new site. It covers:
- Navigating the new interface
- Searching for the data of interest
- Interacting with the available data
